Chief Executive Officer
Spencer Tellkamp
Spencer has grown up working with his dad in the excavating business, and the passion only grew after graduating from high school. He attended Pensacola Christian College & Muskegon Community College (MCC) after graduation. While studying business at MCC, he interned at Newaygo Insurance Agency, which turned into a full time position. In 2017, Spencer decided to go back to work with his dad and the family business, and in 2021, Spencer and his wife, India, purchased Dan's Excavating, and continue to build upon Dan's success. Beyond his passion for his work and his clients, Spencer and his wife, India, enjoy spending time with their son and their dog, Rouge.

Senior Project Manager
Dan Tellkamp
Meet Dan, founder of the “Professional Digg Force”. In 1997, Dan decided he wanted to start his own business in his hometown of Grant, MI. Over twenty five years later, he still loves what he does. His background in the construction & farm industry started at the early age of ten when he started work on a local dairy farm. That early beginning was the start of a life long passion for dirt, crops, cows, and big equipment that roll black smoke!

Some of Dan’s hobbies are taking care of his cows, snowmobiling, being involved with his church and spending time with his five children (many of whom are involved with the family business) and wife of 30+ years, Jackie. If you see Dan rolling down the road, be sure to wave or honk on your way by!

Project Manager
Griffin Reed
Griffin’s love for construction began at a young age, helping his grandfather with various remodeling projects and working on the family farm. At 14, he got his first job at a nursery, where he loaded and unloaded trucks filled with plants, trees, and bulk materials. After graduating high school, Griffin was given the opportunity to start his career in excavating—a field that quickly became his passion.
He later married his wife, Sarah, and in the fall of 2022, they moved from Wisconsin to Michigan. That winter, Griffin met Spencer, who gave him the opportunity to continue pursuing his love for excavating and making a lasting difference, no matter how big or small the project may be.
Outside of work, Griffin enjoys spending time with his wife, kids, and their two energetic dogs. His family loves taking vacations together with the goal of visiting all 50 states. They also enjoy four-wheeling, kayaking, and catching the latest movies.

Project Manager
Gideon Vanderwall
Gideon’s journey in excavating began at just 15 years old, and it quickly became more than a job—it became a passion. In 2019, he officially joined Dan’s Excavating Service, starting out washing trucks and performing general labor. Through hard work and dedication, he worked his way up to project manager, taking pride in turning customers’ dreams and visions into reality. He thrives on the variety of projects he encounters and finds satisfaction in seeing each one completed successfully. When he’s not on the job site, Gideon enjoys hunting, golfing, and spending quality time with his family, balancing his love for work with the joys of home life.

Project Manager
Colin Scholtens
Colin has been immersed in the construction trades from a young age, starting part-time at just 12 years old. His passion for construction and hands-on work continued to grow as he gained experience across the trade industry. After graduating high school, he spent some time in plumbing and HVAC before discovering his true calling in excavating.
Colin joined the Dan’s Excavating team in 2023, where he quickly embraced the company’s culture and found fulfillment in helping customers bring their projects to life. Outside of work, Colin enjoys spending time at home with his wife and dogs or working with his family on high-performance automotive projects.

Concrete Foreman
Antwane Mitchell
Antwane and his fiancée bought a home in Grant around 2022 and quickly grew to love the area. He is a proud father of three boys and cherishes every moment spent hunting, fishing, and playing with them, always eager to teach them everything he knows. What attracted Antwane to his work was his love of learning new skills and his desire to operate an excavator, combining his curiosity with hands-on experience in the trades.
